These 4 things help me focus and Get It Done!!!
Working from home is amazing right. I can work in my PJ’s all day if I want. It’s no hassle to jump on at 4am and get some work done when I can’t sleep. I’m able to fit work in around my family…….
working from home is distracting. The washing machine is beeping. I need to get some meat out for dinner. The kids need a drink, an apple, a sandwich, a drink again….. Sometimes it seems hard to get any work done.
You know what though??? I wouldn’t have it any other way. And I have come up with some things that help me Get It Done.
1.Music – having the headphones on and some music playing in the background is a great way to block out distractions (like now at 8 pm with hubby in the next room with his mates). I’m currently listening to Queen, but have a heap of different stuff that suits different situations…..
2. My To-do list – now this is just a quick list of what I want to achieve in the time I have available now, whether that’s 10 minutes or an hour. I quickly jot down the things I need to get done. This helps me get right to it. I know I don’t have time to just pop onto Facebook for 30 seconds (because we all know it will be at least 10 minutes or more).
3. Scrap Paper – This is my lifesaver. Notes, figures, queries, lists, doodles. my pages have it all. I always have a piece sitting right by my left hand so I can just write down what ever I need. It’s not pretty, and it’s not meant to be. But it is my absolute lifesaver.
4. My Calculator – now the obvious reason that I need this is because I’m an accountant after all and I spend my time doing figures, which is true. And you might be thinking I don’t need a calculator, I am writing a blog. But my calculator has super powers. It transforms – into a mini computer for my little one to do his ‘work’ with Mummy. This is an absolute lifesaver when you just need 2 minutes to finish that last sentence in your email.
